Indian Railways all set to conduct trial of its first solar-powered train

Indian Railways is all set to conduct trail of its first solar powered train in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.  The solar power will be used for internal electricity gadgets and the train will be pulled using diesel-run engines.

North Western Railways PRO Gopal Sharma speaking to ANI said "Solar panels have been installed on top of the coaches in the train and the energy, which we will get from the sun, will be used for the functioning of lights and fans inside the coaches in the train," he further added “the trial run of the train will be conducted by the end of this month.”

Trains using solar power can reduce diesel consumption by up to 90,000 liters per year and also cut down Co2 emissions by over 200 tones.
