Green Stocks May 7: Stocks Struggle To Make Most Of Positive Day

On a day when the market remained broadly positive, and the smaller caps more so, the green pack struggled to take full advantage. Many EPC players like KPI Green had a disastrous day, relatively, as it lost over 4%. Is the market reading the slight delay in the Q4 results announcement as a bad sign? Or is it just one of those days when weak hands let go? Either way, the drop in valuations of this Gujarat-based EPC has been quite the shocker, even by volatile market standards.

Even among the other stocks, few stocks truly made the most of the positive day as many have usually done, leaving the overall pack looking slightly out of breath, and definitely in need of a second wind of policy moves, decisive forward movement on projects, and more. For there is little doubt that much like the decisiveness that comes to the fore when it is a matter of the country’s borders and its innocent citizens, many wish the government would show the same decisiveness for the green transition as well. One well-intentioned move after another has got stuck in a quagmire of delays, obfuscation, and red tape, souring the outlook for what should be one of the brightest spots in the economy.

While by no means a poor outlook for the sector even today, there is little doubt that the market has started looking askance at the news of order wins and fresh contracts, after considering the tardy progress on the projects already in the pipeline. Primarily due to the inability of relevant agencies to close out sales agreements for those. Setting aside the matter of cost, many other issues can still be streamlined further, where progress remains slow. However, as news of the latest fundraise at ReNew, one of India’s newest PV manufacturers at scale shows, interest remains high in the market and its players in India.
