Green Stocks June 4: EPC Stocks In Focus

On one of those rare days more reminiscent of the boom time from 2023, both KPI Green and Waaree RTL shot up over 4% as investor enthusiasm for the two solar EPC stocks returned. Strong results backed by positive management commentary on prospects going ahead seem to have given confidence to many, as the two stocks continue to try and recover the losses they have suffered in the past few months. Sterling and Wilson Solar and Shakti Pumps, however, failed to make the most of this newfound love for solar-related EPC firms.

There was no such luck for the two manufacturing firms on our list, Waaree Energies, and Premier Energies, with even the announcement of large order wins not doing much to help in the case of the former. Perhaps it is the news of another large IPO from Vikram Solar, that is on its way finally. Readers will be aware that the firm has been on again and off again when it comes to its IPO plans, and this time seems like a good-to-go situation.

The three major developers, Acme Solar, NTPC Green, and Adani Green, besides SJVN, also did well to recover some ground lost this week, although all four stocks are well off recent highs, especially NTPC Green, which along with parent firm NTPC, has been struggling to impress investors lately.

Having said that, today was hardly a day when you could say the trend has shifted, or anything of the sort, The market remains in search mode for a decisive move, and as far as we can see, that is still some time away. It will take more than just further reassurances on a good monsoon, or even a breakthrough in trade talks with the US by this month’s end or early July, to bring some mojo back into the markets.
