India Joins Champions Group of Global Crisis Response Group

India Joins Champions Group of Global Crisis Response Group

India has now joined the Champions Global Crisis Response Group (CGRG) constituted by the United Nations (UN), the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said today. The UN claims that this multi-national forum would help the decision makers to mobilize solutions and develop strategies to help the participating countries to address the interlinked crisis related to food, energy and finance. 

This information was shared by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) today with the media. The ministry said that India joined the forum on an invitation from the United Nations.

“The group reflects India’s global leadership and commitment towards addressing global issue that affects particularly affects the developing countries the most. Through this grouping, the United nation will improve visibility of developing countries in addressing developmental issue faced by developing countries,” a statement from the ministry said.

Sanjay Verma, (West), Ministry of External Affairs has been designated as the sherpa to the GCRG. The sherpa’s will meet the virtually today and on a meeting of champions which is scheduled for 21st July 2023. The GCRG was constituted by the UN in March 2022. The GCG (Global Crisis Group comprises of Head of the states/Head of the Government, from Bangladesh, Barbados, Denmark, Germany, Indonesia and Senegal.
