Hyundai to Install 10 Ultra Fast EV Charging Stations on Key Highways

Ace automaker Hyundai has said that the company plans to install 10 ultra-fast charging stations for electric mobility in the country to enable seamless movement and greater adoption of electric vehicles.

In a key development, Hyundai and ChargeZone – Hyundai’s partner – have mounted two DC ultra-fast EV charging stations on two different highways of Hyderabad-Vijayawada and Delhi-Chandigarh.

Hyundai claims that it has become the first original equipment manufacturer (OEM) that has installed public chargers having ultra-high charging speeds. It said that the new installations are capable enough to charge long-range electric vehicles like the Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6.

Hyundai said that the two fast EV charging stations are functional from February 1, 2023. Now the automaker wants to install eight similar charging stations in India before the middle of this year. All of the charging facilities will be available for all EV owners to use throughout the day and there will also be a helper in all charging stations.

According to Hyundai, the new charging facilities will feature one DC 150 kW ultra-fast charger and one DC 60 kW high-speed charger.

One can use the 150kW charger to rapidly charge an Ioniq 5 from 10% to 80% charge in a mere 21 minutes. Charging time in different EVs will differ as each electric car comes with a different set of battery size and pack.

The new ultra-charging stations of Hyundai and ChargeZone will come up on key highway routes like Hyderabad-Vijayawada, Delhi-Chandigarh, Delhi-Jaipur, Mumbai-Pune and Bengaluru-Chennai.

Hyundai previously partnered with Tata Motors to install 60 kW DC charging stations at 34 EV dealerships of Hyundai in 29 cities.

Recently, India’s Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari said that Centre has allocated funds for the construction of 137 additional roadside amenities with EV charging stations on national highways in addition to the seven that already exist.
