Gujarat Tableau At R Day Parade To Underline Its Leadership In Clean Energy

‘Clean-Green Energy Efficient Gujarat’ will be Gujarat’s theme for the Republic Day parade tableau to be held in New Delhi on January 26, an official release said earlier this week.

The announcement in many ways underlines the vital role the state is going to play in India’s clean energy plans. Blessed with a long coastline as well as abundant sunshine, Gujarat has long been a coveted state for estabpishing both solar and wind energy plants at scale. In recent years however, the state has also stamped its dominance of the clean energy supply chain coming up in the country, particularly in solar energy. From polysilicon to modules, manufacturers have opted for the state for both both greenfield as well as brownfield expansions. If proof was needed, take a look at the list of firms approved under the ALMM list, and you will see how Gujarat based firms dominate today.

At the Republic day parade, at the forefront of the tableau will be the world’s largest hybrid (solar and wind) renewable energy park taking shape at Khavda in Kutch. A girl dressed in Kutch attire symbolically holding the sun and wind—the inexhaustible sources of non-conventional energy—will be displayed.

“While in the background of the tableau, a place known for its famous Sun Temple of Gujarat, Modhera village is presented for its solar self-reliance as it became the country’s first 24×7 solar-powered village through BESS (Battery Energy Storage System)

The impact of the PMKUSUM scheme on farmers is also going to be a feature of the tableau.

It is estimated that by 2025, well over 70% of the solar manufacturing ccpacity in the country will be in Gujarat, led by established playrs like Waaree Energies, as well as emerging players like Goldi Solar that have expanded aggressively recently. All that attention has led to the state having the best rooftop solar policy too, where it has shot up to the leadership position for the past 2 years, in terms of new capacity additions.

Of Course, the biggest impact is set to come come courtesy the two largest players in the renewables sector, Reliance and the Adani Group, both of which are racing to expand and establish deep supply chains, mostly in Gujarat.

Even Rajasthan, a state that has attracted players recently for manufacturing, has done so partly due to its proximity to Gujarat, and related infrastructure like ports etc in the latter.
