Germany recently put out the first arge-scale solar capacity auction for the year 2023. Renewable energy firm Greenvolt Group, through its subsidiary MaxSolar, won 5% of the capacity put up for bidding. It will now be looking at the development of close to 100 MW in large-scale solar projects in the country.

The Federal Grid Agency of Germany, Bundesnetzagentur, introduced the first large-scale solar capacity auction of 2023, where a cumulative capacity of 1,950 MW was put out for bidding. The auction saw the registration of 347 bids for a total of 2,869 MW. The capacity is much higher than the amount that was auctioned.

Shared João Manso Neto, CEO of Greenvolt Group, “In a highly competitive auction, Greenvolt, through its subsidiary in Germany, managed to win all the intended licences, further strengthening its pipeline of large-scale solar energy projects. He further added, “Germany is an extremely important market for us, both because of the reference that it already is in world terms in the renewables segment, and because of the ambitious goals defined for 2030.”

MaxSolar is a firm that delves into the development, implementation, and management of solar photovoltaic projects in the markets of Germany and Austria. Its portfolio entails 34.5 MWp of capacity that has been built already, with 41 MWp of capacity that is presently under construction. It has another 14.5 MWp that is ready to build. Recently, the firm announced the acquisition of Germany-based SEAC Group, which boasts of a 3.1 GW pipeline.

“Germany is a market of extreme importance to us, both because of its already established reputation in the global renewable energy sector and the ambitious goals set for 2030,” concluded the CEO, while speaking on Germany’s goal to achieve 300 GW of solar capacity by 2030.

It may be recalled that in December 2022, the tender bidding for ground-mounted solar projects in Germany, awarded 609 MW of solar power. Only 117 proposals, with a combined capacity of 677 MW, were submitted by the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) for an allocation of 890 MW for solar parks. According to the regulator, of these, 104 proposals totaling 609 MW were accepted, while 13 projects were rejected. Only 109 projects totaling 696 MW were chosen from the 1,126 MW objective in the previous round of tenders, which was also undersubscribed.

Another one of Germany’s large scale tenders remained undersubscribed in June 2022. While the tender was for over 1 GW, the bids stood at just 714 MW, of which under 700 MW was accepted.
