Green Stocks May 21: NTPC Green Stock Prices Up Amid Results
The slide in prices continued to weigh down most of the stocks, as all, except Borosil Renewables, and Acme Solar suffered losses today or barely held on. While Acme Solar rode the announcement of a small commissioning, that is clearly no guarantee of stock performance in the future, as broader market sentiments shift. For now, the wall of worry that everyone seems to see, in terms of deteriorating economic numbers and their trend is a sentiment-driven move that will need more than just the odd announcement from the government to shift. There are also justifiable fears that the rising culture of handouts in the country will leave the government with less room for capex where it is needed, especially in novel technologies, etc. The renewable sector has been one sector where private sector capex is not the issue it is for most of the other sectors, but it needs to be kept in mind that this is also due to a much more receptive capital market. A significant change in mood could pass on to the sector very quickly.
The outlook for 2025 remains strong, and it is 2026 when multiple risks, including oversupply and margin contraction could play out. So the Trump Administration, Budget, Quarterly Results and China outlook, in that order will weigh on the sector for now. At least two of those, the results and CHina seem stable enough for now, leaving the market to worry over getting over the Trump Administrations early days and the budget, before it can consider making a break towards new highs.
