Germany has welcomed electrolyser gigafactory established by Siemens Energy and Air Liquide.

The Germany electrolyser gigafactory is introduced by Siemens Energy, which is making electrolysers more commercially accessible while augmenting the hydrogen economy, stated the firm.

The Germany electrolyser gigafactory will boast an annual production of 1 GW worth of capacity. This capacity will be raised to 3 GW by 2025 by Siemens Energy and Air Liquide. The increase could be even greater.

3 GW installed capacity of electrolysis produces 300,000 metric tons of green hydrogen on average on annual basis. The newly-laid electrolyser production lines were established on 2000 square metres valued at close to €30m.

The factory will delve into the supply of stacks based on the PEM (proton exchange membrane) technology. Stacks are crucial to electrolyzers.

A PEM electrolyzer for 200 MW is currently being constructed near Port-Jérôme, France. The said Normand’Hy system has also been developed by Air Liquide and Siemens Energy.

Siemens Energy is responsible for supplying to a few other large-scale electrolyser projects. These are located in Denmark (Kassø), Sweden (FlagshipONE ). These projects promise hydrogen for the synthesis of efuels for shipping.

Countries over the world are announcing green hydrogen ambitions. The world’s largest green hydrogen production plant is in Neom, the sustainable city project in Saudi Arabia. The entire project envisages the generation of 4GW of renewable energy that will be used for the production of up to 600 tons of green hydrogen on a daily basis that could further be employed for the production of 1.2 million tons of green ammonia by 2026.

Indian renewable energy conglomerate, ReNew Power and the Egyptian government have also  signed a framework agreement for the construction of an $8 billion green hydrogen plant in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. India has also announced the National Green Hydrogen Mission to give an impetus to Green Hydrogen.
