Free Solar Power Plant for 800 Houses in Kerala by KSEB Shreeji Infrastructure Wins 35 MW Solar Project by ECL Valued at Over INR 208 Cr

In an announcement that might set a precedent for other Indian states to follow, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) will install rooftop solar power plants for 800 homes in Kerala. The breakup of this number will compose of 500 homes for the homeless as per the Life Mission Scheme. The remaining 300 will be supplied by the Scheduled Caste department.

While the resident will use the power generated for their energy needs, they will also be able to generate income for themselves from selling power following consumption. This initiative forms a part of the Green Energy Income Scheme that is being executed by Government’s Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (ANERT). At present, 400 solar power plants are installed in Kerala homes.

As per the income-generating scheme, a house will be able to sell 1200 units and raise Rs 4000 from this. A solar power plant with capacity worth 2 Kw, which generates 8 units of power everyday, will be installed in houses under the Life Mission Scheme. For every single plant it installs, KSEB will incur Rs 1.35 lakh. Rs 6.75 cr worth of fund entailing Rs 1.75 cr worth subsidy from the central government will be employed for the project that targets 500 houses.
