California based electric vehicle company Fisker Inc has announced to have set up its India headquarters in Hyderabad, Telangana. The operating entity in India will be called Fisker Vigyan India Pvt Ltd. and the company has said in its official statement that it will focus on software and virtual vehicle development support functions.

The New York Stock Exchange listed automaker is undertaking recruitment for its India operations and about 200 local talents will be employed. Fisker said that the company’s primary focus will be on software development and embedded electronics, virtual vehicle development support functions, data analytics and machine learning. Fisker also held that the Hyderabad office will work alongside the Fisker engineering and product development facilities that are based in California.
Henrik Fisker, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Fisker Inc, said, “Our expansion into India represents both a strategic market opportunity and a significant boost to our global engineering capabilities. We have already started local hiring in India and expect our new team in Hyderabad to be fully operational and engaged on multiple product programmes within weeks. Our talent pool in India will help us pave the way for the launch of Fisker Ocean and Fisker PEAR in India.”

Fisker had announced its partnership with Foxconn in January to manufacture Ocean and PEAR models of EV in India and launch them by 2024. Making it comfortably in the luxury category, the Fisker Ocean is expected to be priced at close to $70,000 in the US.
Fisker added, “In the global race for leading technical talent, we see our new operation in Hyderabad as a major strategic advantage. I would also like to thank the state of Telangana for their support and for enabling us to make a fast start as we set up our initial operations. We are excited to tap into the growing talent pool in India.”
The company will begin production of ‘Ocean SUV’ in November 2022 in Graz, Austria. Globally, Fisker employs more than 450 professionals and is hiring more workers for the US, Europe and India operations.
