Faridabad Residents Get a Dose of Solar Lessons

Su-Kam workshop

The two- day workshop held at Centre for Smart Solar Energy, Manav Rachna University, Faridabad was open to all. The training modules included basics of PV modules, batteries and solar UPS, types and working on solar modules, types, and significance of solar charge controller, working, installation and sizing of both solar on-grid and off-grid systems and the like.

In a bid to promote the use of solar energy, Su-Kam has embarked on an initiative of imparting training in solar energy to masses.  The objective of the workshop held at Centre for Smart Solar Energy, Manav Rachna University, Faridabad, was to impart hands-on practical experience in solar energy and prepare a solar –ready workforce. It is in line with government’s ambitious target of installing 100000 MW of solar power by 2022.

The two- day workshop was open to all. The training modules included basics of PV modules, batteries and solar UPS, types and working on solar modules, types, and significance of solar charge controller, working, installation and sizing of both solar on-grid and off-grid systems and the like.

About 100 people attended the workshop conducted under the guidance of technology expert from Su-Kam. Su-Kam has established a Centre for Smart Solar Energy at Manav Rachna University in 2016. Keeping in mind that an educational institute is a perfect place for conducting training that will help youth to explore alternate sources of energy; the center has been provided with state-of the art equipment and witnessed activities related to instrumentation, control and optimization of various energy systems. This center focuses on Governmental projects like Make In India, Digital India, Start Up India, Skill India that helps students as well as faculty members to make progress in the energy sector and lead to skill enhancement and relevant exposure. These workshops at the centre are conducted under the guidance of technology experts from Su-Kam. Beginning from the year 2012, over 250 workshops have been held till now which have trained more than 5000 people in solar energy till date.

“We, at Su-Kam have always stressed the significance of solar energy as a solution to India’s power woes. Solar energy is eco-friendly and cost –efficient in the long –run. These workshops will go a long way in encouraging the use of solar energy by training the workforce and thus heralding a solar revolution in India,” said Mr. Kunwer Sachdev, Managing Director, Su-Kam.

“I appreciate this initiative of Su-Kam. Though there is no dearth of talent in India, we need to supplement our theoretical knowledge with practical lessons. This workshop plays an important role in transforming us from job –seekers to job creators,” said Mr. Atul Mishra, a beneficiary of the workshop.

The initiative is a shot in the arm for the government’s efforts to encourage the use of solar energy. Recently, the Haryana government took a decision to install solar panels in all government schools from next year onwards.

Haryana has high- intensity solar radiation for more than 320 days. Hence solar energy is a viable solution to the state’s power woes.
