EV Startup PiBeam Electric Launches  First Utility Electric Two-Wheeler, ‘PiMo’

PiBeam Electric, an IIT Madras incubated electric vehicle (EV) startup has yesterday launched its first sustainable, uniquely designed, and affordably-priced electric two-wheeler (E2W) ‘PiMo’. This e-bike can be used for both personal and commercial needs.

The company claims that PiMo is India’s first urban utility EV, with a 50 Km Range at a speed of 25 Km/hr that charges under 2 Hrs of charging time. The e-bike is equipped with a 600 Wh Li-Ion Battery with a 250 W BLDC Motor.

The e-bike has a dual telescopic suspension that ensures a smooth ride fitted with a sturdy frame with a Swing Arm that allows the e-bike to run over every type of road. The e-bike also has powerful dual disc brakes.

PiMo comes with six different color variants with an introductory price of INR 30,000.

PiMo was launched at the IIT Madras Research Park here in the presence of cricketer Dinesh Karthik, Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director – IIT Madras; Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala, professor In-charge, IIT Madras Research Park and Visakh Sasikumar, CEO, Pi Beam Electric, among other dignitaries.

EV Startup PiBeam Electric was founded by an IIT Madras alumni, Visakh Sasikumar, and has already gained over 100 initial customers within weeks of opening pre-orders from customers across age groups, from both rural and urban geographies. The company is having clients such as L&T, Michelin Tyres, TATA Trusts, Murugappa Group, Indane, IIT Madras, among others.

“We have built India’s first commercial pedal-assisted solar trikes for material handling and passenger carrying with 3 variants and sold 150 plus trikes. Currently, we are taking a leap forward by entering E-rickshaw, E cart, E Auto, Utility 2 wheeler market with a keen focus on logistics. We work on cutting-edge electric vehicle technologies in collaboration with Industry and Academia. Pi Beam is a startup that graduated from IIT Madras Incubation cell,” the company claims.
