Eurowind Set To Build 2.5 GW ‘Energy Centres’ in Denmark

Europe’s major renewable energy player, Eurowind Energy has announced its plans to develop five renewable energy projects called ‘Energy Centres’ in Denmark. These projects will be based on land and the total capacity will be 2.5 GW.

Eurowind said that it is signing agreements with landowners to enable construction of the RE projects the land. All of the projects will host wind turbines, solar panels, batteries and PtX for hydrogen generation; besides, biogas and hydrogen refining may also join the energy centres.

Located in different municipalities, these five projects are Energipark Aalborg in Aalborg, Norrekaer Enge II in Vesthimmerland and Aalborg, Energipark Overgaard in Randers and Energipark Gasse Hede and Vollum Enge in Tonder. The first energy centre will be built in Energipark Aalborg located at Nordjyllandsværket which will be supported by power from wind farms of Bronderslev Municipality.

Overgaard Energy Park, the largest wind farm of Denmark on land, may get a 700 acre solar power panels installation which is being planned for it.

Jens Rasmussen, Chief Executive Officer, Eurowind Energy, said, “We have now come so far on all five projects that we can share the wider perspectives of our energy centres. Solar PV and wind turbines will always be the starting point for us. They produce the green power that is used in the other parts of the energy centre. That part is in place. We are also working with battery technology, because this way we can provide balanced services to the electricity grid.”

“We also count on electrolysis as part of all our energy centres and our medium sized energy parks. We are relatively advanced in the work with PtX as a natural part of a park,” Rasmussen said.

The CEO also mentioned that the concept of large energy centres can also be exported while sharing that “Eurowind is active in 14 other European markets, and in most of those markets, it looks to transfer the idea of energy centres with some modifications.”
