Endesa To Install 1,130 MW Wind and Solar Power In Spain

Utility major Endesa is building 27 renewable energy projects across Spain of more than 1,130 MW of capacity. The green energy projects are being developed through subsidiary Enel Green Power Espana (EGPE). The company has employed over 4,200 professionals on these renewable facilities this year.

Luca Capuozzo, the company’s renewable construction manager, stated, “The solar and wind power projects are being built in the regions of Aragón, Castilla la Mancha, Extremadura and Andalucía, mainly, and their objective is to meet the objective that we have set ourselves of ensuring that all of Endesa’s production is 100% renewable in 2040.”

According to Endesa, by the end of 2024, it wants to develop 12,300 MW of solar, wind and hydraulic power. The renewable energy expansion is set to push 92 per cent of power production in the Iberian Peninsula at the conclusion of 2024 to be CO2 emissions free. This will also further Endesa’s objective to become an emission free entity in 2040.

The renewable energy projects by Endesa are being built under a ‘Shared Value Creation’ approach that wants to amalgamate the projects with environment and heighten their value for the local community through collaborative efforts. Endesa says that it has trained more than 4,000 persons with the help of the city councils of towns/cities that host the renewable energy projects.

Endesa has commissioned its biggest wind energy farm in Spain called TICO WIND, which boasts of a capacity of 180 MW in Aragón. Two solar power plants with a total capacity of 77 MW near the wind energy farm are in the offing.

In Extremadura, Endesa is constructing as many as five renewable projects: Agripa, Alaudae, Gémina, Tierra de Badajoz and Torrecilla- each with a capacity of 49.5 MW. Similarly, in Casas de Don Pedro, Talarrubias and Logrosán, the company has integrated the solar power panels with sheep grazing. The novel technique contributes to the natural clearing of the fields and promotes agrivoltaics.
