US’ Emerson Strikes Deal with Leading Chinese Firm for Wind Farms In China CIP to develop projects in India

Missouri (USA)-based global technology and software company, Emerson has announced that it will provide integrated wind automation solutions and services to Taiyuan Heavy Industry (TYHI) for three greenfield wind energy farms located in Shanxi Province, China.

TYHI is among the biggest makers of heavy machinery in China.

The official statement of Emerson said that its wind turbine control software and expertise combined with TYHI wind turbines will deliver green energy to over 35 million residents located in Beijing and other cities located in Northern China. Emerson’s wind offering is its  Ovation™ control system, with integrated wind turbine controller and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) technology, that helps manage both individual wind turbines and broader wind farm resources to help minimize turbine generator downtime and maximize their availability.

The Chinese wind market is expected to grow with a cumulative grid-connected wind capacity of 689 GW by the end of 2030. This will be 67% of the global pie.

Bob Yeager, President of Emerson’s power and water business, said, “Wind energy is an essential component of making a net zero future a reality. Our innovative wind expertise and comprehensive portfolio of wind solutions are backed by five decades of delivering value to global wind turbine owners, operators and manufacturers. The result is our ability to help our customers provide the lowest-cost source of clean energy, taking an important step toward a more sustainable world.”

The wind turbine controls and SCADA software of Emerson will enable the operation of three greenfield wind farms capable of generating 300 MW of clean energy from over 40 wind turbines supplied by TYHI. The wind farms are scheduled for commercial operation in 2023.

Emerson has expanded its renewable capabilities and expertise with the acquisition of Denmark-based Mita-Teknik recently. The acquired entity is claimed as a global leader in wind generation solutions with expertise in control design of over 750 wind turbine models and an install base of more than 60,000 systems worldwide.
