Electrify America, the open network of DC fast chargers for electric vehicles (EVs) in the US has kickstarted operations of its 75 MW solar renewable energy generation project referred to as Electrify America Solar Glow 1, located in San Bernardino County, CA. The Electrify America Solar Glow 1 extends to over a square mile and has installed more than 200,000 solar panels.

The launch of the Electrify America Solar Glow 1 comes as a result of a 15-year virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with renewable energy developer, Terra-Gen.

“This milestone, the Electrify America Solar Glow 1, underscores our dedication to reducing our carbon footprint,” said Robert Barrosa, President and CEO of Electrify America, while adding, “As a significant player in the EV charging landscape, we remain steadfast in our commitment to support the charging needs of today’s and tomorrow’s electric vehicle drivers.”

Electrify America

Last year, Electrify America saw customer charging sessions exceeding 5 million. This is a noteworthy surge of 3.5 times when pitted against 2021. This boasts 173 GWh of electricity, facilitating 493 million miles of electric driving cumultaivelty.

Jigar Shah, Director of Energy Services at Electrify America, opined, “We foresee an upward trajectory in our charging network’s usage due to the expanding EV ownership. Solar Glow 1’s addition of 100 percent renewable energy production, surpassing our 2022 network usage projections, solidifies its importance.”

Volkswagen’s fast-charging public network firm Electrify America announced the launch of “Solar Glow 1” back in February.
