Electricity Generation Company Genex Power To Take Over Australia’s Solar & Battery Project

A 2 GW solar and battery energy storage system project in Queensland will be developed by the Australian energy business Genex Power. Nearly 100 kilometers southwest of Toowoomba, in southeast Queensland, is where you’ll find the Bulli Creek Clean Energy Project. It will be built out over a 5,000ha plot of land in five stages. The project rights will be sold to Genex by an Australian manufacturer of solar energy equipment Solar Choice.

In the first stage of the Bulli Creek project, an energy storage facility with a 400 MW/1,600 MWh capacity will be built. Genex plans to decide on its ultimate investment for this plant in the second half of 2024. During the second phase of the project, a solar photovoltaic plant with a capacity of 475 MW to 675 MW will be constructed. Additionally, it has been suggested that the project’s complete land capacity be built out in later phases.

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency agreed to help Genex Power with its Kidston Stage 2 Pumped Hydro Energy Storage project in March 2021. It is situated at the Kidston Clean Energy Hub in North Queensland, which was formerly the Kidston Gold Mine. With a capacity of 250 MW/2,000 MWh, the plant can store enough energy for eight hours.

According to reports, Genex Power is currently in discussions with potential joint development partners about financing the growth of the Bulli Creek renewable energy project. This will include contributing significantly to the project’s external development costs and financing capital expenditures with equity.

Solar Choice has committed to offering some development services by the conditions of the agreement. Starting in 2013, the company will receive a development fee at the financial close of each stage of the solar and battery project.
