EDF Renewables, a a wholly-owned subsidiary of French utility Group, EDF, has shared its plan for the proposed 80 MW Kilsallagh wind farm project, which is to be established in Ireland. The project will entail 13 turbines and their tip heights will be up to 200 metres.

Once the project ge a go-ahead permission, a Community Benefit Fund will be set up, which will lend support to local initiatives as well as activities.

Subject to planning permission, the wind farm is slated for operation in 2028.

Jenny Howard, Head of Development at EDF Renewables Ireland, said, “We are looking forward to hosting the local community at the public exhibition, updating them on progress to date and getting their feedback on the project. The team has been hard at work completing a number of environmental studies and assessing the geotechnical and other conditions at the site,” while further adding, “The project will benefit from Mayo’s excellent wind resources and will make a positive contribution to increasing the amount of electricity generated in Ireland from renewable sources. We will also be speaking to residents about the Community Benefit Fund on offer, and how funds from this can benefit local initiatives and activities.”

Recently, EDF Renewables joined hands with Jan De Nul and Luminus towards the bidding for an offshore wind tender. It will be for the first phase of the Princess Elisabeth Zone in Belgium. The area has been identified by the government to augment Belgium’s local renewable electricity generation by up to 3.5 GW.
