Delhi College to lighten its surrounding with solar power

Dyal Singh College

Delhi University’s Dyal Singh College has always aspired to make campus Green and Clean. In its latest initiative the collage has installed l00kWp Solar Power Panel on its rooftop which will partly meet the requirement of the college and surplus on certain days will be sold out to BSES, so that it can be diverted to such areas where there is shortage of power in the vicinity.

With the installation of solar panel Dyal Singh College situated in south Delhi has become the first DU College to become self-sufficient in electricity production.

The college, which has a requirement of around 200 kilowatts installed solar power panels for the production of 100 kilowatts in the first phase at a cost of 62 lakh. Rooftop solar panel installation was carried out with help of SECI and MNRE.

Speaking to India Today principal of Dyal Singh College- IS Bakshi said “we have decided that the excessive power produced will be shared with the community. These solar panels will reduce the electricity bill by almost 30 per cent. People have always been complaining about the shortage of electricity during summers. Our move might also help the others.” He added “This is our way to save the environment. The entire college will be using the energy generated by the solar panels installed on the roof.”
