The Directorate General of Training (DGT), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, has partnered with Shell India to launch a Green Skills and Electric Vehicle (EV) training initiative aimed at equipping youth with hands-on expertise in electric mobility and renewable energy technologies. The program, implemented by Edunet Foundation—Shell’s training partner—will roll out across selected Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) in five states, including Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. EV Skill Labs Under the first phase, the initiative will set up EV skill labs at key institutions and offer a tiered training model, including a 240-hour advanced EV technician course at four NSTIs, a 90-hour job-oriented EV course at 12 ITIs with Shell-supported labs, and a 50-hour green skills module at additional ITIs. The curriculum, co-developed by Shell, Edunet and DGT, covers EV systems, battery technology, digital tools and safety protocols. Over 250 instructors will also undergo ‘Training of Trainers’ certification. Successful participants will receive co-branded certifications and structured placement support. The effort is aligned with India’s broader green economy vision and its national push toward electric mobility under initiatives such as FAME. Towards a Green Economy “This collaboration reflects the government’s commitment to aligning skilling with sustainability,” said Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. “We are equipping young Indians with the skills to shape—and not just participate in—the global green economy.” Trishaljit Sethi, Director General of DGT, said the partnership will bring advanced infrastructure and industry-aligned curriculum into vocational training, enhancing employability in the EV sector. Shell India Chairperson Mansi Madan Tripathy added, “Equipping youth with green energy skills is an important step towards building a lower-carbon future.” The partnership aims to prepare thousands of students for careers in India’s fast-evolving green and electric mobility sectors.
