Denmark-based investment firm Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has joined hands with Indian firm that develops wind projects, Viviid Renewables for the establishment of over 1.8 GW of renewable energy capacity in India. CIP entered into the agreement through its Copenhagen Infrastructure New Markets Fund I (CI NMF I).

The Indian firm and the Danish firm will start be setting up two onshore wind farms that will boast of capacity exceeding 500 MW. The establishment of these wind farms will then be followed by devloping the rest of the capacity, which will be constructed by CI NMF’s successor funds.

CIP’s Associate Partner Peter Sjøntoft said, “This is the second CI NMF I partnership in the Indian renewable energy market, reflecting India’s continuing importance as a key focus area for the fund. With this partnership, we are significantly strengthening our foothold in India and are delighted to partner with Viviid and look forward to working alongside their highly experienced team, combining our joint expertise to assist the green transition in the country.”

Siddharth Mehra, the Founder of Viviid said, “We are very excited to be partnering with CIP to accelerate delivery of our project pipeline over the coming years. Through this long-term partnership, we aim to further strengthen our contribution to India’s ambitious target of installing 500GW of generation capacity from renewable sources by 2030.”

As per the agreement, Viviid will look into providing projects from its development pipeline. At the same time, it will also  deliver key development activities. The design, engineering, procurement and construction services for the said projects will also be offered by Viviid.

A few days ago, CIP revealed that it was looking to invest EUR 8 billion in a mega offshore wind energy project in Portugal. Solar energy and storage projects developer Amberside Energy has also partnered with CIP for the development of 2 GW of solar and battery storage projects in the United Kingdom, where CIP is working on behalf of its flagship funds.
