Second Phase of Expansion of EV Charging Stations in New Delhi Gets NDMC Nod

Delhi's Electric Vehicle Policy will expire this August. Officials maintain that 86% of the targets that had been set it by it have been achieved. Further, the government has disbursed subsidies in the EV sector worth INR 154 Cr.

The Delhi government has already begun work on a revised version of the draft policy and will welcome stakeholder consultations soon.

In the new policy, one can expect an extension of the timelines and establishment of charging stations, additional measures on electrification of commercial vehicles.

As per the policy in place currently, 25 per cent of new vehicles registrations have to be electric vehicles by the next year. So far, this percentage is pegged at 11 per cent. By 2025, the policy aspires to electrify the public transport bus fleet while 100% of delivery service fleet has to be in the electric version. The same principle of 100% applies to the official fleet of the Deliver government personnel this year.

The Delhi EV policy has been lauded for introducing a favourabe framework of incentives for the purchase of EVs and the establishment of electric vehicle charging stations. At the same time, the a lucrative tariff structure which boasts of high subsidies has also helped drive the EV sector in the city of Delhi.
