Power distribution company Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) held a workshop for representatives of hospitals and healthcare centres to encourage them to adopt solar power said a company spokesperson to PTI.

The workshop was attended by representatives of 50 hospitals and healthcare centres in the city, said the spokesperson.

Hospitals having large rooftop space are ideal for installation of solar photo-voltaic panels. Their peak loads are often in daytime, coinciding with the peak solar generation time, which can help them meet up to 20 per cent of their power needs,” he said.

Solar power plants also require “very less” maintenance and ensure “reliable” power for over two decades, he said.

“The grid connected rooftop-based solar power plants have a life span of 25 years wherein 1KW of PV power plant will generate up to 1,400 unit in a year,” he said.

The consumers can also sell the surplus power generated, to the discom at Rs 11 per unit, and attain break even on investment in five years, he said.

“We will continue our efforts towards enhancing the use of solar power among our consumer base and contribute towards the national solar mission that aims to establish India as a global leader in solar energy,” said Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD of Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL).
