Renewable energy developer of Southeast Europe, CWP Europe has collaborated with PowerChina Resources for the construction of the largest wind farm in Serbia that will have a capacity of 300 MW.

CWP Europe held that the investment agreement was signed in Belgrade on by Executive Vice President of PowerChina Resources He Shiyou and CEO of CWP Europe Dimitar Enchev.

The Vetrozelena wind farm of CWP Europe consists of 48 wind turbines that will make 300 MW of green power capacity. The project’s electricity output will reduce CO2 emissions by around 820,000 tons annually. This will be enough to supply more than 185,000 households with green electricity.

Vetrozelena wind farm will be the largest wind power plant in the country upon its completion in 2025, mentioned CWP Europe.

The investment deal in the 300 MW wind farm creates favorable conditions for further advancements of renewables in Serbia and is a clear sign that the country is now on a path to diversify its energy mix. The two companies are in a unique position to collaborate and combine global knowledge and specific local experience.

Dimitar Enchev of CWP Europe said, “Representing one of the largest foreign direct investments in Serbia delivering low-cost clean electricity, the project is an important step towards the diversification and decarbonization of the Serbian energy mix.”

The Players Involved

CWP Europe claims to be a leading company for renewables in Southeast Europe. It has already successfully realized some of the largest wind farms in the region, including the largest wind farm in Europe – the 600 MW Fântânele-Cogealac in Romania. It is currently developing over 6 GW of renewable energy capacity in Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Montenegro, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Moldova, and Ukraine.

PowerChina Resources Ltd. specializes in international investment business including renewable energy segment.

Serbia plans to bring the share of the renewables to 41 percent of gross final consumption by 2030. With regards to wind power, the western Baltic country wants to raise it to 10 times to 3500 MW by the end of this decade.

Recently, Chinese wind turbines maker, Zhejiang Windey bagged a contract with Serbia’s leading IPP Fintel Energija to delivery, assemble and maintain wind turbines for wind farm projects with a cumulative capacity of 110 MW in Serbia.
