Amazon has introduced its global last mile fleet program in India. In a first such global initiative for the firm, the fleet will boast 100% electric vehicles (EVs), Amazon EV Fleet Program. The program will facilitate 300 Delivery Service Partners (DSPs) to lease a fleet of tailored three-wheeler electric vehicles through a fleet management firm.
The fleet program will provide support to Delivery Service Partners with respect to EV maintenance, charging, and parking. The vehicles, informs Amazon, boasts advanced safety features. The data generated by the electric vehicles makes it possible to optimize deliveries.

The fleet is being introduced at an opportune time, ahead of Diwali. Over time, additional electric three- and four-wheelers will also be introduced. 

Customized vehicles 

The electric vehicles are custom-made for the deliveries for Amazon EV Fleet Program. Initially, the firm has added Mahindra Zor Grand three-wheeler EVs to the fleet. These have been tailored with special features enabling last mile deliveries for Amazon. The electric vehicle can travel at speeds up to 50kmph. On a single charge, it can cover more than 100 kms. Among other features, it comes equipped with telematics and safety technology. One can also access real-time data on vehicle performance, driving behaviour, and critical safety metrics.

Amazon EV Fleet Program has joined hands with Mahindra Electric and other manufacturers of electric vehicles towards the deployment of over 6,000 electric vehicles for delivering packages in more than 400 cities across India.

Amazon has set sights on achieving 10,000 electric vehicles in the country fleet by year 2025. Amazon seems to intensifying its interest in India and recently also became the largest corporate buyer of renewable energy in the country.
