The hotel industry has begun to recognize the significance of going green. In the recent past, several of them have taken measures such as establishing EV charging stations with the goal of enabling electric mobility- Novotel Hyderabad Airport, Le Roi Hotels to name a few. The most recent one to step onto the bandwagon is Courtyard by Marriott Madurai, which has established its first electric charging station by Charge Zone.

The newly installed EV charging station has been designed to help charge two electric vehicles at the same time from 0% to 80% within a time period of 45-60 minutes. The Charge Zone fast charger boasts of compatibility with all four-wheel electric vehicles available in India. The station will be open to the public and accessible at all times, giving a push to transition to electric mobility.

The country has been facilitating the transition to electric vehicles and a string of initiatives have been introduced towards this. The Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicle-II (FAME II) scheme is an important one in this regard.

JP Menon, General Manager of Courtyard by Marriott Madurai, stated, “Through this initiative, we aim not only to attract more guests but also to establish our brand as a sustainability leader. Charge Zone, our state-of-the-art fast charging station, has been installed on our property.”

The inauguration ceremony of the fast charging station saw the presence of Dr A Pradeep IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Madurai South, M Vijayalakshmi, Joint Chief Environmental Engineer Madurai Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board and team.
