Construction Work Kickstarts on Orsted Offshore Wind Projects in Port of Emden Orsted Marks Entry into UK

Construction work has kickstarted for Orsted’s Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind projects in the Port of Emden. The wind turbines will be installed next year.

The Denmark-based renewable energy firm, Orsted, has revealed that the wind farms will be handed over the operational management during 2024-end or at the beginning of 2025. Following this, an additional 1.2 million housholds will have supply to green electricity.

EPAS will be responsible to provide port service and provide support to logistical tasks.

The Managing Director of Orsted in Germany, Malte Hippe, who looks after the Orsted Group’s operations management in Central Europe, said, “Emden is essential as a location for the construction of our new wind farms in Germany. He further added, “For the construction of our offshore wind farms, we need a suitable location that enables us to organize the logistics effectively and to have the shortest possible distances to the plants – this is possible from Emden in cooperation with EPAS”.

The Site Manager at Orsted, Dennis Bormann, who is responsible for the offshore installation work at Borkum Riffgrund 3 and Gode Wind 3, remarked, “It’s great to have such a reliable and broad-based partner like EPAS at our side. The cooperation is professional and flexible, which suits us very well during the construction phase. In order to be able to coordinate the installation work over the next two years, we opened a project office in the port of Emden.”

A project office on the south quay of the port in Emden has been started by Orsted. It is from here that the establishment of the two wind farms will be managed in the span of the following two years. Additionally, the management of commissioning of the two wind farms will also take place from here.

The completion of the work on Borkum Riffgrund 3 is slated for completion by April-end.

Recently, Norway-based offshore firm Argeo entered into an agreement with Stromar consortium that comprises of Ørsted, Renantis and BlueFloat Energy.
