A leading player in the renewable energy sector of Sri Lanka, WindForce PLC, has partnered with reputed IPP Lakdhanavi Ltd and the Blue Circle Pte Ltd- a Singapore-based renewable energy firm, for what is set to be Sri Lanka’s largest private-sector renewable energy project. The project, which will transform the energy landscape of the island country, is a 100 MW solar power plant equipped with a transmission facility. The location of the project is Siyambaladuwa, Monaragala District.

The solar project will witness a cumulative investment worth USD 152 million and is slated for completion before the close of 2025. WindForc’s portfolio of installed capacity will be augmented by 30% following the completion of the project.

“The magnitude of this project is unprecedented. It stands as the largest renewable energy endeavour ever awarded to the private sector by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB). This significant accomplishment reinforces WindForce’s position as a key player in Sri Lanka’s renewable energy landscape,” WindForce stated.

The project has been awarded as a single package, boasting of a 100 MW solar power plant, 12 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), 2×63.5MVA, 132/33kV grid substation, and a 27km, 132/33kV transmission line. This promises efficient distribution of energy and is said to set new standards for the industry in Sri Lanka, given that it comes with BESS.

The Island nation is striving for the generation of 70 per cent of its electricity requirements from renewable sources by the end of the decade.
