Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation Limited (CESC) subsidiary, CESC Green Power, is in the process of setting up solar cell/module and other value chain/ancillary manufacturing across various locations in India. And this time, it finds itself coming all the way to Uttar Pradesh, drawn by attractive incentives and land near the upcoming airport at Jewar.
In a regulatory filing, while sharing these details, CESC repirtes that the project includes the development of a 3+ GW solar cell/module plant, battery manufacturing, a 60 MW RE power plant, and various ancillary units, with an estimated total capital investment of up to Rs. 5,000 crores.
CESC will provide all necessary financial support to CESC Green Power Ltd. Additionally, it aims to ensure the financial closure and implementation of the project. Such support would include, but not be limited to, equity infusion, strategic assistance, and facilitating institutional funding, it added.
Previous Investments
The West Bengal-based CESC< which also runs coal based plants in the state, has been a late joinee to the renewable's race. In a bid to expand its presence in the renewable energy space, CESC previously participated in REIA bids with limited success. In an investor presentation for Q1FY26, it envisioned making renewable energy investments in Purvah Green Power.
Through this investment, CESC aims to execute a 3.2 GW hybrid renewable project over the next three years. As part of its planned renewable energy capacity, CESC aims to add 3,200 MW by FY29 in Phase 1 and an overall capacity of 10,000 MW in Phase 2 under Purvah Green Power Private Limited (Purvah).
Among its other renewable energy initiatives, CESC, over the last quarter, undertook connectivity of 7.3 GW and secured approval for 3.8 GW of projects. These projects are located across Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. Q1 FY26, it also signed agreements for 3,500 MW of wind projects with Inox, Suzlon, and Envision.
In this duration, it has also signed agreements for 600 MW of solar projects in EPC mode with Waaree and Sterling & Wilson. It has acquired 3,000 acres of land, with another 8,000+ acres of land parcels under evaluation and in various stages of acquisition.
