A Green Hydrogen Research Laboratory has been established in the Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP). Vice-Chancellor Prof Sat Prakash Bansal held that the set up of its Green Hydrogen Research Laboratory is an important step with respect to sustainable energy research.

“This laboratory has been established in line with the vision set by our PM Narendra Modi, who had approved National Green Hydrogen Mission in the year 2022,” he stated.

India has been proactively giving an impetus to Green Hydrogen. The Government of India approved the National Green Hydrogen Mission in the month January 2023 with the initial outlay of Rs.19,744 crore, including an outlay of Rs.17,490 crore for the SIGHT (Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition) programme, Rs.1,466 crore for pilot projects, Rs.400 crore for R&D, and Rs. 388 crore towards other Mission components. The government is aiming for the development of green hydrogen production capacity of at least 5 MMT (Million Metric Tonne) per annum with an associated renewable energy capacity addition of about 125 GW in the country.

A month back, NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NREL), the green arm of NTPC, chose leading Green Hydrogen company Ohmium as its Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzer partner. The agreement will likely boost the Green Hydrogen production plan of the NTPC, India’s largest government-owned power producer.
