Brazilian firm WNI Smart Energy, which is the solar arm of Curitiba’s WNI Technology Group, is looking to set in motion 15 new solar plants in Brazil this quarter.

The WNI Group provides energy solutions and smart energy by way of photovoltaic systems among other businesses. The WNI Smart Energy arm of the Group offers design, installation, monitoring, operation, maintenance and support of photovoltaic power generation systems for individual customers as well as firms.

The plants will be set up in the southern states of Paraná and Santa Catarina, the firm revealed. According to a statement by WNI Smart Energy, it already caters to over 100 customers in all the regions of Brazils, with the exception of the northern area.

Among the most recent projects of the firm was a solar plant for local fiberglass product manufacturer GM Fibras. The project, known as AC Central Geradora Fotovoltaica (UFV) GM Fibras, the plant has been established in São José dos Pinhais, Paraná state. It kickstarted operations in July 2022 and produces 100 MWh of capacity every year. Spread out to an area of 450 square meters, the plant boasts of 142 solar panels of 530Wp.

The cumulative power generation of the GM Fibras’ plant in the first six months of commencement of operation, stood at 59,000kWh. GM Fibras anticipates full return on its investment in up to three and a half years, through the investment figures have not been revealed as yet.

“We know that the high energy consumption of plants makes solar energy for industries more important every day. This renewable source, in addition to substantially reducing the cost of power bills, significantly reduces our environmental footprint. And this directly influences the operation and maintenance of factories when it comes to costs and savings,”  CEO of GM Fibras, João Carlos Miranda said.

In Brazil, photovoltaic solar energy is the second largest source of energy. In a recent development, the South American country’s solar energy touched 23.9 GW of installed power that is in operation all over the country. Wind power is at 23.8 GW of wind power. The figures have been shared by solar industry association Absolar.
