Birla Carbon Acquires Belgium's Nanocyl for Lithium Generating Carbon Solutions

Birla Carbon, a manufacturer and supplier of carbon solutions, recently acquired Nanocyl SA, a Belgium-based firm working on multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT). This acquisition expands Birla Carbon’s presence in the energy systems market, in material critical to Lithium Ion battery performance and other conductive applications.

The firm maintains that the key motive of the project is to expand the material portfolio for key markets and establish a leadership position in materials critical to LiB performance. Additionally, it also aims to leverage innovation to drive growth beyond carbon black. The inclusion of Nanocyl’s MWCNTs provides Birla Carbon a wide range of solutions for conductive applications.

Birla Carbon describes Carbon Black as follows, "Also used in lithium-ion batteries Carbon Black is a hybrid carbon black/CNT conductive additive. The product provides increased electrical conductivity and power density to batteries and can also be provided as a pre-dispersion to improve ease of use for battery manufacturers."
