BHEL to Supply Electric Buses With Charging Infrastructure in UP

BHEL has won an order for the supply of electric buses along with the charging infrastructure of these buses for Gorakhpur City in Uttar Pradesh.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), the country’s largest power equipment manufacturer, has announced it has won an order for the supply of electric buses along with charging infrastructure of these buses for Gorakhpur City in Uttar Pradesh.

The order has been placed on BHEL by the Urban Transport Directorate (UTD), Lucknow. These low floor, disabled-friendly Electric Buses will be deployed by UTD at the Gorakhpur airport.

“This is in line with the company’s transformation initiative of expanding into new markets/businesses. Further, as part of the transformation journey, BHEL is consolidating and reinvigorating the initiatives taken in Defence & Aerospace, Water, E-mobility, Batteries, Renewables and Transportation businesses,” the firm issued in a statement.

In January, we had reported that Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture under Ministry of Power has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), one of the largest engineering and manufacturing enterprises in India to set up a network of Public Charging Infrastructure for electric vehicles (EV) at various highways across the country.

As part of the MoU, BHEL will offer complete EPC solutions from concept to commissioning while EESL will make the entire upfront investment on services, along with the operation and maintenance of the public charging infrastructure. The MoU covers collaboration for identifying, planning, development and installation of charging stations at suitable locations. EESL & BHEL will jointly explore opportunities in the field of e-mobility and fast-track the adoption of EVs in the country under the Government of India’s National E-Mobility Programme.

In February, BHEL had announced that it had emerged as the best supplier of battery and associated equipment in a tender recently floated by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) for installation and maintenance of battery energy storage systems (BESS). The firm had offered 410 kWh of cumulative battery capacity for a total cost of Rs. 2.51 crore, including six years of comprehensive warranty and maintenance.
