Apple Aims for Decarbonization by 2030

American multinational technology firm Apple has called on its global supply chain to look into the challenge of its greenhouse gas emissions and embrace the decarbonization route.

On the Path of Decarbonization

Apple, which is now aiming for decarbonization by 2030, will look into the operations of its major manufacturing partners so that the firm can move towards decarbonization of its functions. It is now looking at operating on 100 percent renewable electricity. As part of its decarbonization plans, Apple will also evaluate its annual progress.

It may be noted that the multinational American giant has been carbon neutral for its global corporate operations since the last two years. The firm maintains that it is now determined to achieve the goal of becoming carbon neutral across its global supply chain, the life cycle of every Apple product included.

New Initiatives

As the world grapples with climate change every step of the way, Apple has come up with fresh initiatives and announced investments to accelerate the decarbonization of the global economy and provide impetus to innovative climate solutions for communities. Some of these investment initiatives entail the likes of considerable investments made in renewable energy in Europe, and forging partnerships in order to support businesses looking at making the transition to clean energy. Besides, the firm is also giving new support for projects that accelerate natural carbon removal and community-driven climate solutions on a global level.

“Fighting climate change remains one of Apple’s most urgent priorities, and moments like this put action to those words,” maintained Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “We’re looking forward to continued partnership with our suppliers to make Apple’s supply chain carbon neutral by 2030. Climate action at Apple doesn’t stop at our doors, and in this work, we’re determined to be a ripple in the pond that creates a bigger change.”

The Big Goals

Apple which is working dedicatedly towards decarbonization has revealed its big plans. These include commitment from over 200 suppliers to use clean energy such as wind or and solar for Apple production, the creation of 3000 Gwh of new renewable energy across the continent of Europe annually with a view to address the electricity employed by Apple devices in Europe. Additionally, Apple is also aiming to remove 1 million metric tons of carbon forecast in year 2025 through its Restore Fund.

In another noteworthy milestone, Apple had already cut down on its emissions by 40 per cent since year 2015.

Apple has planned investments of adding 3,000 gigawatt hours per year of new renewable energy on the grid.
