The idea of solar push carts is gaining ground in India, especially in southern states. In 2020, Karnataka, Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa, disbursed  fruits and vegetable push carts powered by solar energy. The tricycle push carts were made by the Indian Institute of Horticulture Research in Bengaluru, under Atmanirbhar Bharat Programme. 50 kilometres of distance could be traversed by these carts upon being full-charged.

The solar powered carts boast of a lower cost of maintenance and is said to enjoy wide range of applications. On the flipside, there is a high installation and material cost involved. However, because of Government emphasis on equipment that harness solar power, the costs have seen a downturn.
