Amara Raja Breaks Ground on Telangana’s First Lithium Cell Gigafactory

Amara Raja Breaks Ground on Telangana’s First Lithium Cell Gigafactory

Industrial and automotive battery maker Amara Raja Batteries Limited (ARBL) is building the first gigafactory of Telangana which will also be India’s largest when it’s operational. The battery gigaplant will come up in Mahbubnagar district. The inauguration ceremony was attended by MA&UD Minister of Telangana, KT Rama Rao, and Amara Raja Group Founder Dr. Ramachandra N Galla along with Jayadev Galla, CMD of the firm.

The company is building a grand ‘Amara Raja Giga Corridor’ in which it will manufacture lithium cells with a capacity of upto 16 GWh and battery packs of upto 5 GWh. The new gigafactory will be employing more than 4,500 people directly contributing to socio-economic development of the state.

The battery maker said that initially, the firm will build facilities that will act as an advanced energy research and innovation center called ‘Amara Raja E +Ve Energy Labs.’ The lab will have advanced laboratories and testing facilities that will help in material research, prototyping, product life cycle analysis and proof of concept demonstration. This will not just be for Amara Raja but also for other players that deal in energy and EV space.

An MoU was signed recently between the state government of Telangana government and Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies (ARACT). The Amara Raja subsidiary is known for developing Li-ion cell chemistries for Indian conditions. The company is supplying lithium battery packs and chargers to two and three wheeler OEMs in the country.
