Altea Green’s Black Bess Project of 1 GW Commences in Italy

Renewable energy firm headquartered in Turin, Italy, Altea Green Power has announced that it has commenced work on a battery storage system for capacity worth 1 GW. Known as Black Bess, the project will be established in Italy itself.

The project will entail four sites in Italy’s central-southern part and will be commissioned in the first half of 2024. The Black Bess project will be co-located with Altea’s other storage projects namely, Green Bess, Blue Bess and Yellow Bess. Altea already has a portfolio of 2 GW in Italy and the Black Bess project will contribute significantly to it.

Presently, the firm is in advanced stage of talks with two international investors for the co-development of these sites.

Altea Green Power has set sights on reaching a capacity of 5.5 GW of BESS storage by 2026 all over Italy.

White Bess and Pink Bess will also be announced after Black Bess. Each of these storage systems will boast a capacity of 1 GW each. Most of these projects will be set up in central and southern Italy. The remaining ones will be established in the northern part of Italy.

Italy has emerged as a hotspot for energy storage market. Some major projects announced here include Enel’s 1 GW contracts, Aura Power with over 1 GW pipeline, Matrix Renewables with 1.5 GW of projects, Eku Energy boasting another 1 GW pipeline.
