Airports in India to install solar power plants

Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju at a program on Sunday asked all the airports across India to install solar energy units. As part of the program, 12 MW solar power units have been already installed at Kochi airport run by the Cochin International Airport Limited. Currently entire airport is operated on solar power.

Addressing reporters here after showing 5KV solar energy panel installed on rooftop of his residence at a cost of Rs. 5Lakh, Raju said a similarly, solar unit has also been installed at the Delhi airport . He added that he had asked other airports in the country to emulate this step.

Talking about the expense, the Minister said state government had given Rs 2 lakh as a subsidy for installation.

Solar power plants will also be installed at Sri Varahalakshmi Nrusimha Swami temple at Simhachalam and the MVGR Engineering College at Vizianagaram. The MANSAS (Maharajah Alak Narayan Society of Arts and Science led by Vizianagaram Maharaja’s family) Trust would take up both the projects.
