Adani Green Energy (AGEL) has revealed that its 700 MW hybrid green energy project has been set into operation, following which, the firm’s cumulative operating renewable portfolio has reached 8,024 MW. This is India’s largest operating renewable portfolio.

The said project is AGEL’s fourth wind-solar hybrid power plant that is fully in operation in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer. As per the company statement, the 700 MW plant is the largest wind-solar hybrid power plant in the world. All the other three wind-solar hybrid power plants are also located in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.

The company statement read, “With the successful operationalisation of the 700-MW plant, the world’s largest wind-solar hybrid power plant, AGEL now has the largest operating renewable portfolio in India with 8,024 MW.”

The combined operational generation capacity of the 700 MW hybrid plant is under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) which has been signed at Rs 3.24/kwh.

The newly added hybrid power plant has a combination of 600 MW capacity of solar and 510 MW capacity of wind plants. The plant boasts of bifacial solar PV modules and horizontal single-axis trackers (HSAT) systems. These have been employed to allow for optimum generation of electricity from solar energy. The plant has been designed in a way that it delivers a capacity utilisation factor (CUF) of at least 50 per cent. Notably, this is also the highest CUF for a renewable project in India. In India, the average CUF for a solar PV plant is around 15 to 19%.

Adani Hybrid Energy Jaisalmer Four Limited houses the said plant. Adani Hybrid Energy Jaisalmer Four  is AGEL’s wholly-owned subsidiary .

In May last year, the firm had set into operation the first hybrid power plant of 390 MW capacity in the country. Soon, it also commissioned the largest co-located hybrid power plant in the world. This was for capacity of 600 MW (September 2022) . The third hybrid power plant was operationalised in December 2022 for 450 MW capacity.

Recently, the renewable developer arm of the Adani Group, AGEL reported a strong set of numbers with strong profit growth. The firm’s Q3FY23 net profit jumped to Rs 103 crore as against Rs 49 crore last year.
