Philippines-based ACEN, in partnership with UPC Renewables, has begun construction of two large-scale renewable energy projects in India—a 420 MW solar farm in Rajasthan and a 120 MW wind farm in Karnataka—as part of its continued expansion in one of the world's fastest-growing clean energy markets.

The projects, scheduled for completion by early 2027, are expected to generate a combined 1,158 GWh of electricity annually, enough to power approximately 241,000 homes and offset more than 876,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

420 MW solar project in Barmer

The 420 MW solar project is located in Barmer, Rajasthan, a region known for high solar irradiance. It is expected to produce 767 GWh annually. The 120 MW wind farm in Karnataka will harness seasonal monsoon wind patterns and favorable terrain to deliver around 391 GWh of clean power annually.

Together, the projects are expected to create over 1,500 green jobs during the construction phase, contributing to local employment and regional economic growth.

“These new projects represent not just scale, but momentum—as we continue to turn opportunities into action,” said Patrice Clausse, CEO of ACEN International and group chief investment officer. “Our enduring partnership with UPC Renewables has enabled disciplined capital deployment across high-potential markets like India.”

Asia-Pacific expansion

UPC Renewables Chairman and Group CEO Brian Caffyn said the projects mark another milestone in the firm’s Asia-Pacific expansion. “Following the deployment of 630 MWp of solar capacity in India, this next phase further strengthens our partnership with ACEN and the India team driving this vision forward,” he said.

Alok Nigam, CEO of UPC Renewables India, added that the projects mark the second phase of growth for UPC’s India platform, part of a broader 1 GWp pipeline targeted for delivery over the next two years.

The new projects build on ACEN and UPC’s existing joint portfolio in India, which includes three operational assets: the 420 MW Masaya Solar, 140 MW Sitara Solar, and 70 MW Paryapt Solar.
