ABB has supplied its central inverters to power 20 MW solar project in Egypt developed by Middle Eastern EPC contractor Complete Energy Solutions (CES).

According to the company statement, the 20 MW solar power project was commissioned this year in two phases, located in Toshka, Egypt, was constructed by Complete Energy Solutions (CES), a key Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) company specializing in turnkey solar solutions, with operations based in Egypt and UAE.

“The solar plant will add reliable power capacity to the grid in Toshka, which will support agricultural infrastructure development in this area. The plant also utilizes green technologies helping to reduce CO2 emissions as well as the usage of conventional sources of energy, reducing the petro chemical subsidies for Egypt,” said the executive director of CES Yasser El Shazly.

ABB said the supply agreement included the complete electrical and automation solution for the plant, including the design and engineering works. The product solution includes PVS800-IS inverter stations, PVS800-MVP pad mounted medium-voltage (MV) solutions, string boxes and a SCADA system for controlling the plant, complemented with site testing, commissioning and start-up services.

“The high efficiency and easy-to-maintain industrial design of our inverters combined with ABB’s local best-in-class technical support offer customers a real, reliable and bankable solution that we are able to support for years to come,” says Ahmed Radwan, head of Drives and Solar Business in ABB Egypt.

‘’We are proud to have participated in this eminent project, which serves the country’s ambitious renewable energy plans, generates a positive environmental impact and makes the best use of its natural resources,” added Naji Jreijiri, Managing Director of ABB in Egypt, Central & North Africa.

The 20 MW solar project in Egypt is realized with 8 PVS800-IS inverter stations with a 2,000 kW rating. Each inverter station contains two PVS800 central inverters, featuring an efficient, reliable, compact and easy-to-maintain product design. The inverter stations are connected to PVS800-MVP medium-voltage pad mounted solutions, containing a MV transformer and ring main unit (RMU) for the MV connection.
