5000 Acres of Land to be acquired for Commissioning 1000MW of Solar Park in Odisha

With an aim to add aggregate clean energy capacity of 1000 megawatts by commissioning 4 solar parks in the region by 2020, the State Government of Odisha has directed different District Collectors to identify and recognize around 5000 acres of land for the project.

The Odisha Government has set the target, which was also mentioned in its draft Odisha Solar Park Policy 2014. The Odisha Solar Park Policy draft focuses on facilitating accelerated deployment of solar energy in the State to address the climate change issues and support sustainable development.

The Odisha Government will implement the draft policy in two models: Green Energy Development Corporation of Odisha (GEDCOL) model and other will be a private developer model.

The state of Odisha gets an average solar radiation of 5.5k Wh/sqm area with around 300 clear sunny days every year.

According to the reports of National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), the solar power potential of Odisha has been estimated at 25780 Mwp2. And the districts like Sundargarh, Nabarangpur and Balangir are the best possible places for the development of solar parks, as these districts amongst the places that receive more sunlight than other regions.
