The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), in its latest order on the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM), has extended the validity of 12 out of 23 solar manufacturers whose validity expired on March 9, 2023, and those who approached the ministry for such extension. 

These 23 solar manufacturers were the first lot of solar manufacturers whose names were featured in the first ALMM list published on March 10, 2021. The MNRE, in its order, said that validity of those manufacturers expired on March 9, 2023. It also noted that many of these manufacturers had asked the ministry to extend their validities. The ministry, in its latest order, has extended the validities of 12 out of the 23 such manufacturers mentioned in the first list.

Those solar manufacturers’ validity has been extended from March 9, 2023, to May 9, 2025, as per the latest decision of the MNRE. While the first list of 23 local manufacturers was released on March 10, 2021, it saw several revised lists. The latest was on February 27. 

“The ministry has received applications for renewal of validity from some solar manufacturers enlisted in the first list ALMM List-I before March 9, 2023. For the aforesaid manufacturers who have applied for renewal of validity in the ministry before March 9, 2023, it has been decided to provisionally extend the validity of enlistment in ALMM by two months i.e., till May 9, 2023,” the ministry said in its order.  

Per the list, the solar manufacturers whose validities were extended included Mundra Solar, Vikram Solar, ReNewsys India, Sova Solar, Solex, Waree Solar, and others. Some of the solar manufacturers whose validity remained till March 9, 2023, included- Bharat Electronics Ltd, ORB Energy Ltd, Tata Power Solar, Premier Energy, Goldi Solar, among others. 

Earlier on March 2023, the ministry also deferred the requirement of ALMM. It declared that its orders for using only domestically approved modules in the ALMM would be held in abeyance till March 31, 2024. The order was expanded to cover all government-supported projects.
