LOHUM, a producer of sustainable energy transition materials and Altigreen, a manufacturer of commercial cargo electric vehicles, have announced a strategic partnership aimed at addressing the critical challenge of sustainable battery disposal in the electric vehicle (EV) industry.

Under the partnership, LOHUM will recycle end-of-life batteries from Altigreen electric vehicles via its NEETM™ technology, recovering 95% of high-purity battery raw materials that can be used to manufacture new batteries. The partnership will enable LOHUM to recycle 1 GWh of Altigreen EV cargo vehicle batteries over the next three years, contributing to a significant reduction in battery waste and the efficient utilization of resources.

This collaboration aims to promote responsible and environmentally friendly practices within the electric mobility sector while minimizing the carbon footprint of Altigreen’s EVs.

With the rapid growth of the EV market, the demand for batteries has surged, resulting in a significant increase in battery waste. Recognizing the urgent need for effective battery recycling solutions, Altigreen and LOHUM have joined forces to establish an innovative framework for achieving Alitgreen’s responsible battery disposal and recycling targets. LOHUM as an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) partner registered under India’s Battery Waste Management Rules (BWMR 2022) will enable Alitgreen to meet these targets.

Altigreen, says it is committed to minimizing environmental impact via low carbon commercial EVs and dedicated to adopting sustainable practices for its Li-ion cells and battery products. The partnership converges on LOHUM and Altigreen’s shared mission to build a low carbon future and actively contribute to a closed-loop EV industry, say both the firms.

Dr. Amitabh Saran, Founder and CEO of Altigreen, commented,We are thrilled to partner with LOHUM to develop a comprehensive battery recycling program. At Altigreen, we believe that sustainability is at the core of our mission. This partnership will enable us to responsibly manage the end-of-life batteries from our electric vehicles, reducing waste and minimizing the environmental impact of our operations.”

Rajat Verma, Founder and CEO of LOHUM, stated,We are excited to work with Altigreen Propulsion Labs, a company that shares our vision for a greener and more sustainable future. Through our battery recycling expertise, we aim to support Altigreen in their commitment to circular economy practices and contribute to the overall growth of the EV industry.”

This strategic partnership between Altigreen and LOHUM represents a significant step toward addressing the critical issue of sustainable battery disposal in the EV sector. By integrating responsible recycling practices into their operations, both companies are actively contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for electric mobility in India.

LOHUM is a producer of sustainable energy-transition and battery materials, and claims to be the only integrated lithium ion battery recycling, refining and reuse firm.

LOHUM has been forging partnerships with various firms for battery solutions, such as MG Motor, ACKO among others.
