Delhi to Welcome 140 Public Charging Points & 48 Battery Swapping Facilities

In a move that will accelerate the Delhi's EV (electric vehicle) segment, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal revealed recently that Delhi will welcome 140 new public charging points.

In a move that will accelerate the Delhi's EV (electric vehicle) segment, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal revealed recently that Delhi will welcome 140 new public charging points. 48 battery swapping facilities. These will come across 53 locations in the city.

Officials say that the price of charging at all these points will be fixed at INR 3 per unit. The 53 locations will see the establishment of 118 slow charging points (3.3kw/7.5kw). 32 moderate charging points will also be set up. These will boast of a capacity of 15 to 22kw. The city will welcome 23 fast charging points that have capacity of more than 22kw, and 62 battery swapping facilities.

It is being held that this initiative will will encourage citizens to buy electric vehicles.

An official informed, “With this, driving EVs will be cheaper as compared to fuel in Delhi. The cost for charging a two-wheeler would be 7 paise per km while for three-wheelers, it will be 8 paise per km. For four-wheelers, the cost will be 33 paise/km.”

The current EV policy of Delhi is nearing completion and the new policy is in the works. A few days back, the Delhi government had announced the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Policy, which mandates a shift to cab aggregators, besides other incentives for electric vehicles.
