ANERT Inaugurates Five Fast EV Charging Stations in Kerala

  • In order to enable private participation in the EVCI market, the Government of Kerala is providing financial assistance in terms of 25% of the charging machine cost. Also, to encourage renewable energy systems, additional financial assistance of Rs. 20,000 per kW for solar installation up to 50kW is being provided.

The ANERT (Agency for Non-conventional Energy and Rural Technology) has inaugurated five fast EV charging stations in the state of Kerala in order to keep pace with the fast-growing EV Market in the State.

The installations have come up in Chittur Thathamankalam Municipality, Palakkad; Shornur Municipality, Palakkad; Perinthalmanna Municipality, Malappuram; KTDC (Kerala Tourism Development Corporation) Aahaar Restaurant, Vadakara, Kozhikode and KTDC Aahaaram Restaurant, Kayamkulam, Alappuzha.

The Minister for Electricity K Krishnankutty inaugurated the EV charging stations at Palakkad. For other inaugural ceremonies at the other districts, the minister marked his presence online at the other Districts.

All the EV charging installations (EVCI) are employed with 60 kW CCS2, 60kW Cha-De-Mo (a fast-charging system for battery electric vehicles) and 22kW Type 2 AC.

In order to enable private participation in the EVCI market, the Government of Kerala is providing financial assistance in terms of 25% of the charging machine cost. Also, to encourage renewable energy systems, additional financial assistance of Rs. 20,000 per kW for solar installation up to 50kW is being provided.

The installation of six additional EV charging stations is nearing commissioning while another ten are in the pipeline already.

ANERT has been giving a push to the EV and renewable energy sectoris in the state.  It recently issued issued an RFS (Request for Selection) for agency for the implementation of 2 MW solar power plant at Travancore Titanium Products Ltd, Kochuveli, Thiruvananthapuram under Solar City Project funded by Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Ltd. Earlier, in a key development, ANERT had signed an agreement with the Norwegian renewable energy firm World Wide Wind for exploring options to find possibilities for offshore wind energy by employing floating turbines.

Currently, ANERT has 40 micro hybrid projects to be undertaken in tribal hamlets of Kerala.
