Job Description

The Manager – International Development will develop and oversee the portfolio of international development programmes delivered through the South Asia Hub in India. The role holder will collaborate closely with resources groups from across the global Mott MacDonald business to increase our revenues from overseas development assistance-funded programmes across South Asia, in line with the Group International development sector strategy and Regional International development sector strategy. The role holder will play a key role in the capacity and capability building of the hub, increasing skills, and achieving an optimal level of local and international resources to minimise risk and maximise commercial performance. Priority sectors to be developed include urban, climate, water, energy, health, education, skills and social development.

Key Responsibilities : 

  • Provide strategic oversight, technical leadership and governance input through the Win and Do processes of International development projects across the South Asia region, holding Proposal Principal, Project Principal, Reviewer or other as necessary.
  • Design, develop and implement the agreed International development capacity building projects set out in Regional priorities set for South Asia. This will include but not be limited to prioritising investment within the sector, including training, acquisitions, staff hires, market entries and exits etc. at the strategic level.
  • Convene and chair a South Asia International development portfolio steering group to accelerate closer working relations, awareness of issues, sharing of resources and strategic positioning.
  • Promote and be a role model for alignment within the Sector and between Sectors.
  • Work with the Regional Business Development Director and Unit General Managers to explore new target operating models to achieve efficiency and effectiveness gains across the region.
  • Liaise closely with Key account leaders for the International Development sector’s platinum and gold clients to develop and implement effective customer engagement plans in line with Regional priorities to increase revenue and improve margin.
  • Champion Regional involvement and increased participation in the WIN, DO and LEARN of International Development programmes in the region, increasing the awareness on capabilities and capacity in the process.
  • Coordinate and liaise with Advisory sector colleagues to develop a collaborative and coherent strategy for pursuing Multi-lateral Development Banks active in the region.
  • Ultimately, drive sales and deliver revenue growth.
  • Act as a regional ambassador for Mott MacDonald, articulating and representing the vision and
  • value proposition internally and externally, leading the strategic positioning of Mott MacDonald in its chosen markets.

Candidate Specification :

  • B.Eng. (or appropriate qualification) and Master’s in Economics / Business Administration
  • Significant technical expertise in capacity building and institutional strengthening at sub-national and national level within South Asia.
  • Demonstrable experience in International Development projects, in one or more of the technical areas.
  • Should have experience as a Team Leader/Project Manager, managing the multi-sector program and multi-disciplinary teams composed of international and national consultants.
  • Dedication to excellence in project planning, management, and delivery.
  • Experience of maintaining excellent relations with implementing and donor agencies, including the facilitation of evaluation missions.
  • Experience of working with, and managing local partners.
  • Experience with monitoring and record-keeping of projects, preparing work plans, budgets, progress reports and financial reports.
  • Good understanding of policy and programs operating in the sector.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to manage competing priorities;
  • Attention to detail and ability to effectively and efficiently perform multiple tasks and balance competing priorities often within a required time frame.
  • Team player and willingness to learn and support the learning of others.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.
