This Exciting Role Offers Opportunity to:

  • Lead technology development projects and guide teams (local and remote resources) and external technology resources (External labs/University researchers).
  • Create innovative power distribution and energy management solutions and prototypes based on advanced technologies.
  • Identify and develop commercialization solutions with substantial growth potential for Eaton’s power distribution businesses, and provide advisory services to business partners
  • Actively participate in strategic planning and development of Eaton product/service offerings and support New Product/Technology Introductions concurrent with Eaton business needs.
  • Provide mentoring and help develop/train less experienced staff in a working environment.
  • Participate in brainstorming and design bursts contributing to the technology strategy.
  • Support building business unit relationships by presenting ideas and projects, contributing to the development of compelling value propositions for technology work and acquiring resources and funding needed to ensure success.
  • Develop yourself as a subject matter expert both internally and externally to Eaton; attend conferences, seminars and/or consortium meetings in relevant industry to network with technical peers and stay relevant in their fields.
  • The Lead Engineer is expected to serve as a technical and/or project lead on projects within the Energy Systems team. They are responsible for meeting the project schedule, scope, cost and technical targets for all efforts under their control.
  • Perform research on power component/ power system reliability, DERMS, prognostics and diagnostics/ health monitoring of power grid assets
  • Bring together state-of-the-art reliability engineering methods, physics-of-failure understanding, data acquisition and analytics, mathematical modeling and tools for asset management, to improve the reliability of mission-critical power grid equipment
  • Drive multidisciplinary research projects in close collaboration with stake holders including business units, COE’s, as well as external universities and industrial partners.
  • Record research findings and file patents, trade secrets and write technical reports

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree Or Ph.D. in Electrical/Electronics/Systems/Controls Engineering / or equivalent technical field from accredited institutions.
  • Master’s Degree (5-9 years) or Ph.D. (2-5 years)  experience in power systems technologies focused on distributed energy resource management, micro grids, smart-grids, grids of future, power converters, connected systems, asset health management and smart products.
  • Experience in a variety of power system protection, monitoring and control (FLISR, AMI, integrated Volt/VAR control, adaptive protection, etc.)
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art diagnostics and lifetime prognostics methods, and experience with data acquisition and electronics is desirable.
  • Experience in developing preventive/predictive health monitoring solutions for power system devices (Relays, CB’s, network protectors and transformers) is desirable.
  • Hands-on experience in the area of electrical power systems, distributed energy resources, integration of renewables, protection in traditional grids, smart grids and grids with renewables,  power electronic converters, connected systems and asset health monitoring.
  • Working experience in developing algorithms, performing engineering analytics, system modeling and hardware-in-loop systems will be added advantage.
  • Possess strong business acumen and the ability to understand and formulate compelling value propositions and to understand and drive through value and adoption chain.
  • Understanding of mechanical systems and electromechanical actuators will be desirable.
  • Proven track record for IP generation and publications in reputed peer-reviewed journals is desired.
  • Hands-on experience with engineering tools like Matlab/Simulink, PSIM, PSPICE, PSCAD and experience in building experimental setups and conducting disciplined experiments would be desired.
  • Software development capability: python, C, C++
  • Ability to apply Design for Six Sigma methodologies including QFD, DoE and reliability engineering in the course of their work. Green belt certification in DFSS or DMAIC is highly desired.
  • Experience in leading projects with multiple stakeholders in matrix organization and strong project management experience is required.
