SolaREIT Surpasses $125M in Battery Energy Storage Land Financing

SolaREIT, a US-based real estate investment firm specialising in solar and battery storage infrastructure, has announced the deployment of over USD 125 million in capital for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across the country. The company now supports a cumulative storage capacity exceeding 1.4 GWac, spanning all 50 US states.

"Battery storage is the backbone of a resilient, modern grid that can support this country's growing energy needs—and it all starts with land," said Laura Pagliarulo, CEO of SolaREIT. She noted that storage sites are often more complex and costlier to secure than solar, making early-stage land financing critical to project success.

SolaREIT offers a suite of capital solutions, including land acquisitions, lease purchases, and battery storage land loans. These financial tools aim to reduce upfront risk for developers and accelerate project timelines.

Since its inception, the company has helped finance solar and storage projects valued at more than USD 3 billion. Notably, getting access to viable land and early capital has been one of the most challenging tasks for developers in grid-scale project deployment.

US BESS Market Expands Rapidly, But Policy Risks Loom

The United States’ utility-scale battery storage capacity surpassed 26 GW in 2024, according to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA). While still accounting for just 2 percent of the nation’s 1,230 GW of utility-scale electricity generation capacity, the BESS sector is growing at a rapid clip.

Falling battery manufacturing costs are a key driver. Rystad Energy forecasts annual BESS installations to reach around 16 GW by 2026, supported by technology advances and improved project economics.

However, looming policy changes could dampen investor sentiment. Recent rollbacks in clean energy tax incentives under the controversial One Big Beautiful Act have sent ripples through the renewable energy industry. While the storage segment remains largely unaffected for now, analysts warn that prolonged uncertainty could eventually impact BESS development as well.
